Trip to Rio is a song recorded by René (MellieTerry on YouTube), believed to have been recorded from German radio station Radio ffn or HR3. Only a brief (~1:26) sample was played and thus recorded.
In 2002, René uploaded a snippet of the song to his website DeDiniDevil.de. He claimed to have recorded it from the radio in October 1987 and thought the artist's name was something like 'Base Bazaar'.
On 25 November 2021, the OP uploaded the full recording to YouTube, and added that he possibly recorded the song from Radio ffn in Lower Saxony, Germany, or HR 3 in Hesse, Germany.
Search on the Fond My Mind Discord Server began in July 2021 and immediately ruled out some potential leads (Boys White Teeth).
There was discussion about “Brazilia” in the song potentially being the vocalist trying to translate the name of Brazil in Germany – Brasilien. Discord user Terrified Toad found a band called Paradise Bazaar that existed in Germany at the right time, however they were not immediately investigated.
There was also effort to see if the lyric "10,000 miles away" could be helpful, producing a list of countries that were approximately 10,000 miles away from Brazil. However, many believed the lyrics was simply an artistic choice.
There was a notable hoax lead – a band called Youngshields. The hoaxer went to some effort to make it seem legitimate, but it was eventually determined to be a hoax.
A band called Soul Bazaar was found by Murphy that seemed to be a likely candidate for the song. They were from one of the suspected countries, active during the expected years and had similar vocalist ability. However, a week later, a member of Soul Bazaar confirmed that it was not them and they were officially ruled out.
Discord user Saber contacted the DJ that most likely played the song, Markus Hertle of HR3, but he didn't recognize the song.
Discord user PersonOfDistraction looked into the previously mentioned Paradise Bazaar lead, finding that they were part of a Berlin Senate rock competition of unsigned bands. Samples from this contest were kept and now reside in the Archive for Youth Culture in Germany. PersonOfDistraction and Webb got in touch with the lead librarian at the archive, who listened to the Paradise Bazaar demo and said that the band was:
"similar... a little less poppy, with more experimental sounds and a little reminiscent of Joy Division. There are no steel drums... But I can't rule out that it's the same band [entirely]."

Paradise Bazaar - the librarian at the Berlin Archive of Youth Culture said they sounded less poppy than TTR and sounded like Joy Division, but couldn't rule them out entirely. (anyone so inclined can listen to the demo in Berlin, Germany - contact PersonOfDistraction if you intend to do so)

Yesterday I found a ticket
For a flight to Brasília
I was wondering, why you bought it
Now I just came home
And who was missing, it's you
Now I just came home
And who was missing, it's you
Where you will go, I will follow
Even to Brasília
10,000 miles from home
I've got to find you
Oh, oh, Rio!
I'll fly to Brasília
Oh, oh, Rio!
Into the sunshine
Brazilian girls on...
